I was moving a 500 pound bolus of magazines out of my office this evening when I noticed the August issue of Publish said this on the cover:
GET ON THE CLUETRAIN WITH DAVID WEINBERGER
Had a helluva time finding the story. Turned out it was an interview: the "Dialog" section inside the back cover. I'd point to it on the Web, but it isn't there. Made me think: If dialog is two people talking, and monolog is one person talking, what's nobody talking?
Since Publish isn't publishing this dialog on the Web, here are Dr. Weinberger's best lines:
Customers don't need you in order to talk.
The world isn't flocking to the Web because it wants a better shopping experience.
Big business is running to catch up with Web users. We don't need permission from big business to go out on the Web, connect, speak, play. We've given ourselves permission.
Notice who we are.
What were they drinking?
Forbes gave a "Best of the Web" award to GreatCoffee.com, just before they went saucer-up.
Aw jeez. Again?
Here's the bottom line for the moment: if you need to send mail to me, please make it to doc@searls.com.cnchost.com, rather than the usual doc@searls.com.
Apparently my domain name registration ran out sometime in July and got yanked yesterday. I never knew and was never notified. But yeah, I'm sure it was my fault. Probably never successfully changed my addresses with Network Solutions. What really sucks is that it's happened before and I thought I had it fixed. It would be SO much easier if they'd renew these things automatically. But nooOOOoo.
Whatever, it's paid for now. Bear with us through the few hours or days it will take before searls.com repropogates through all the name servers.
Credits: Dan Wilder at SSC/Linux Journal and Bruce Steinberg both did a great job of finding, flagging and helping us fix this thing.
