Comdexterity
| | Just posted a long blog on today's two Comdex keynotes, over at Linux Journal. (Right before the battery dies, which will be in any second...) |
Living in Google's fur, cont'd
Why I'll be in the desert tonight
It's even huger than it appears
Be there then
| | Aaron and I are two panelists on a Great Debate at Comdex starting 4pm today in the Convention Center (at the Debate Area on Aisle 11000). Here's another link to the event. Not sure why that one doesn't bill me as The Linux Guy, but... whatever. Should be fun. |
Say when?
| | I changed my ticket so I could get home early enough Tuesday to catch the Leonid meteor shower with my 6 year old kid. |
Say who?
It's only four letters, but at least they spelled the name right
| | Blogs (short for "Web logs") are being hyped as the latest transformational application that will alter the way business is conducted. In reality, blogs are simply a different method for people to collaborate and form communities, using a journal metaphor. This has existed for many years via private and public collaboration tools (discussion boards, groupware, online community software). Blog applications do not alter the existing benefits of community collaboration to business. But the growing availability and popularity of free community discussion software can lower barriers for customers to conduct their own online dialogs about products and services. |
| | If that was the kind of stuff we do here, our asses would have been bored off three years ago. |

You would think with the Press's focus on sex, politics, religon, and violence to sell their 'rags'; that they could come up with a better angle..

Saying blogs are no different than what has come before is like claiming the motor-vehicle (and it's democratisation) was no advance or made no significant difference as a few had been using carriages for centuries before.
It's a fatuous observation from Meta.
There's very little that is new, it's just being done better, faster or by more people than in the past.
You can dismiss any change with this approach, if you want. My question is, what is it about blogs that Meta seeks to marginalise.
Hamish.
