It's all gray — but the one thing that seems black and white to me is the permanence of the output. Publications like to make their stuff permanent. They produce output in the finished sense of the word. It's manufactured. Blogs may be no less permanent than anything else on the Web, but the finished work is maleable. Editable by the author. I often change stuff I've already publishd. So does Dave. So do lots of other bloggers. Seems different in kind to me.
