War is swell
| | Sitting in the back of a session room with Eric Raymond, passing notes while the boat slowly eases up and down over a series of swells. Eric, who is rapidly becoming an A-list warblogger, just pointed me to the latest draft of his Anti-Idiotarian Manifesto. (If the permalink doesn't work, just go to the link above. It's currently the top item.) |
Entropy gradient
| | Huh invites you to revisit default ideals. It's good reading, so pull up a deck chair, relax and watch the water rise. |
Know your emnity
| | Thanks to Cory for the pointer. |
Floating pionts
| | Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Webworld and all the geeks at sea. From one of them. |
| | I'm writing this from one of the GeekCruise session rooms on the M.S. Maasdam somewhere off the coast of Cuba en route from Ft. Lauderdale to Cozumel. The following stops will be in Grand Cayman. Then Jamaica and a few other places. |
| | The wireless works well. I'm an unknown number of feet from the hot spot here on the boat, which is 25,000 miles from the satellite that relays the signal back to somewhere on Earth. That accounts for about a half second of latency. Not great for live two-way stuff, but not bad for everything else. |
| | I'll be reporting on the tech side of this thing on a Linux Journal blog that should be up shortly. Stay tuned for that. [Okay, it's up, here.] |
| | Meanwhile, I'm paying by the minute to be on line here, so I'm doing a lot of time management, which means it might be awhile before I answer all the email and stuff. |
