Real bookshops
I wholeheratedly agree with your sentiments on frequenting traditional bookshops to provide them with some custom to offset the damage that the discount and on-line stores are having on their business. There's nothing quite like browsing amongst real shelves and handling real books. I was very sad when John Smith & Son's [*] St Vincent Street branch in Glasgow shut down due to competition from the likes of Borders and Waterstones. It was on my walking route into work. Fortunately the Strathclyde University branch is still going strong. Which reminds me I'd better confirm my recommended book choices for my classes.
OTOH, I also like the convenience of shopping on-line when I'm not within easy reach of a real bookshop so thanks for linking to the Online Bookstore Price Compare site for those immediate price comparisons.
* John Smith & Son Bookshops
was founded in Glasgow in 1751. They are Scotland's oldest independent book retailer, and believed to be the oldest continuously trading bookseller in the world. The Company is owned by its shareholders, most of whom are staff.
Cheers,
Duncan
