Re: Thursday, July 25, 2002
Last October Neil Bauman of Geek Cruises, and my Virtual eTeams.NET core group went on a Western Caribbean cruise aboard the Celebrity "Century." The site survey was to determine if a five start cruise ship would work with the cruise seminars and conferences we were all planning with our various companies.
During the last day we stopped in Key West, FL, and being the devoted former English major I went to Ernest Hemingway's house. As a former Naropa Institute student (Allen Ginsberg headed up the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics), I have long thought there should be a type of "open source literary movement," something between the Lost Generation and the Beat Generation, so I'm going to call it the "BLOG Generation."
Back in Detroit after attending Naropa, in the mid 1970's, my literary friends and I at Mayflower Books started a literary journal, SOPHIA, and named our movement "Boulder DADA Tantra MAMA." The influence of Zen and Tantra on American authors very well documented these days, and we were surrealist tantrists, and I think we had the right attitude about all of the mantras infiltrating poetry at the time, which was to retain our sense of humor but continue to respect all of these profoundly esoteric translations from Tibetan and Sanskrit. I think we were spiritual geeks.
