Another thing people don't stop to think about with Scott. He was the head of Sun when it was a tiny startup. he's the head of Sun now that it's a large, mature, industry-leading company.
Name the number of guys who turn a small company into a big company without bringing in a new CEO when the guy who runs the startup can't figure out how to scale any further.
There aren't many. Scott was CEO when I joined Sun (employee #1150ish), before it went public. He's still running it today. That's pretty much unprecedented. Beyond that, he's been successful, with few mis-steps, always found a way to fix mistakes, never got into the zillion-dollar-compensation thing, and ran a hard-working and fun company.
McNealy isn't perfect, but I'll watch his back any day (even though I've been gone from sun forever....), because he was always there watching ours. And his company has succeeded.
Consider the alternatives....
