RE: Hi-Fli
Here's why I think they've outlawed cell phones on airplanes. When you use a cell phone, often times it takes at least a minute for the tower to recognize that you are connected, and start billing you for time. That cell company then bills you for your time through your cellular provider, which can take up to 2 to 3 months depending on the company and whether or not you are roaming, etc. An example is that oddball telephone call that shows up on your bill a month later. The average range of a cell phone to cell tower is say, 10 to 15 miles. It takes a 747 about 2 minutes to go 15 miles. So, for a 10 minute phone call, you could hop to as many as 5 towers, or more. The cross billing and processing on that single phone call would be a nightmare, the cellular industry would lose millions (billions?). That's why I think they outlawed cell phone use on airplanes.
Just my opinion, based on some semi-facts and hearsay. But, it makes the most sense to me. I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks.
