Re: Friday, June 21, 2002
Today I spoke with one of my students, who is in student mgt. at WXYC, the college station at UNC-Chapel Hill. Remember that WXYC was the first radio station to broadcast on the internet, right? Well, that's over, thanks to CARP. The new fees will put an end to the era that WXYC started. On a budget of less than $20,000/year there is no way they can afford the fees, not to metion the man power to keep the detailed records.
College radio stations across the country are most likely not able to pay the fees set in place by CARP and the Copyright Office. Therefore, we can say our "goodbyes" to their webcasts.
