This crap the RIAA is pulling is all about control, not money; well, eventually,it's about money, but it's really about preserving their monopoly over music distribution. Internet Radio was an alternative distribution channel they had no control over.
It sure doesn't help the artists. In fact, it screws them even more than the recording industry already does on a daily basis. Courtney Love did a pretty good job of laying out the musicians' plight two years ago--the recording industry has made it almost impossible for anyone but them to make money off music, and they're willing to use some of that money to pay off people in position to affect legislation and regulation in their favor.
