Tech support appeal
I am told one can recover files from erased flash cards. I'm hoping that's the case, and it's not too difficult, since I went and erased every photo I took today in Glacier Bay with my Sony PC-110 camcorder, which stores stills on a 128Mb Memory Stick flash card. Using Norton doesn't work, since Norton, unlike OS X (or 9) doesn't recognize the flash card as a drive.
Anyway, if you've got some ideas, lemme know.
[Later...] I've downloaded an OS X beta of PhotoRescue, and it seems to have recovered nearly all the files. I can see them in fact, I just took a screen shot of one thumbnail: it's the pic to the left, of Adam Engst and Glenn Fleischmann but I can't seem to find a way to save them. Alas "Demo version will not save results." But it's a beta demo. This looks like a real good program, but not being able to use it is kinda frustating. Maybe I'm missing something. I just wrote to the PhotoRescue people asking for help. We'll see what happens. Here's hoping...
More later
Did Skagway yesterday. The sky cleared right after we arrived. Somebody explained that a clear patch of blue is locally called a "sucker hole." But it didn't suck, all day. It was mountain & cloud theater all day long.
No time to elaborate. Today we're in Glacier Bay, where it's overcast and gloomy, but
Singing praises
A couple months ago I talked up Venice Cameron, a terrific young singer from Toronto. If you want to hear her and you're in her home town, I'll share the email I just received:

Hi, Doc: Tomorrow, head back over to Glacier Bay and have the glacier back up, and retake the photo. Should be all right, then. Lost a little time, but heck, enjoy!
Any other questions, just let me know.
Thanks,
Tom Poe

P.S. The BPDG thing had a little action, today. Seems the closer they get to the final report, the more nervous some are about having their names attached to such nonsense. This of course, led the Co-Chairs to show their colors some more with, "
BPDG: Report update

Broadcast Protection Discussion Group,
As you know, BPDG participants submitted a significant number of comments on the report and requirements drafts prior to the revised Wednesday deadline, and a number of comments following that deadline. The co-chairs are carefully reviewing and incorporating those comments, and accordingly will circulate the co-chairs report on Monday, rather than today as was previously planned. Please note that it is unlikely that the co-chairs will be able to consider further comments at this point.
Regards,
BPDG co-chairs"

Hey Doc..
A few weeks ago I had the same deal with a camera I use at school. Somehow all the photos got erased... what a mess I was in! I put the SanDisk in its PC Card holder and found an undelete program. Surprisingly, there are very few out there that are free. After *much* searching, I found Drive Rescue. This little baby saved every single photo on my card. What a relief!! I couldn't find any Linux programs to do this, I don't know about Mac ones. Good luck!

Geeks on the bow of the ship watching glaciers calve into the bay: this was one of the higlights of the trip because it got everyone out of the Library and off of their laptops.
Perhaps we should have a Zen master travel with us next time and take away our cameras and force us to all look at nature rather than record it for future viewing.
