Re: Wednesday, May 1, 2002
May Day..I looked at Kurt's nice little idea, then I looked at who wasn't playing along. Did any 50 kw Am or big powered FM's where you live stop over the air signals today...no....yeah a few stations in a few of the larger groups stop streaming today but most of the people were niche. People playing what they think an audience wants to hear..something commerical radio has missed the boat on in the last 8 years..It's too safe...
The next set of hearings in DC will be webcast by IWA and TV worldwide. This is where they figure out how to do the "reporting". If you use server logs, without someone auditing them you know what's going happen..the twenty listeners will morp to one or o. Then what do you pay and who polices this...
They only way to measure streaming media is from the client side, who get's the broadcast and how long they really listen. Can't do that with a windows media, shoutcast or real log. Arbitron can't do it, near can the newer kids on the block. Reliacast can but the technoloy is quirky but when it's working watch out..but it's pricey..
I listened to Vinyl 107 all day today..it's in Sweden...Thursday I'll listen to the nice folk music show from Radio Guld in Sunsvall, and Friday it's Adam Curry and Kid V on BBN from Holland.
