You might also try chimera (http://chimera.mozdev.org/) - it has a simpler, light-weight interface which I find much more responsive on my wimpy 400Mhz TiBook.

I'm using Mozilla 1.0rc1 right now, and command left/right work just fine for me. And I don't believe I had to do anything in the preferences to make this work.
Other than that, yeah, Mozilla rocks. The rendering is fast, and the tabbed view is kick ass.
