Time out to kvetch
| | One of the few things I hate about OS X is dialing from the road or, right now, from the airport (at the moment, LAX). |
| | I have about 100 local dial-up settings for all over the world that are still sitting on OS 9, and were not converted for OS X. While I sort of understand the new system, it's far less friendly than the old Remote Access, which let you duplicate one set of settngs and change it slightly to work as a new set of settings where only one parameter has changed. Maybe that's here in OS X, but if it is I can't find it. |
| | Anyway, its an unbelievably warm and beautiful day here in L.A. You can see all the mountains, the Channel Islands, and beyond. I hope North Carolina will be half as nice. |
| | [Later...] One more beef: battery life. In Classic MacOS, I could nurse one battery from coast to coast. In OS X, I'm good for maybe an hour. And the grace period between the low battery warning and shut-down is a matter of seconds. Of course, it may also be a matter of settings I don't know yet. Advice is welcome. I'll be on the road for most of the next month. Thanks. |
Later
| | I'm leaving shortly for North Carolina. Three planes, three thousand miles. Gonna see my Mom and a couple old friends. Buzz and I are also gonna see Duke kick St. Johns' ass on Sunday. Back Tuesday. |
New tricks for an old rat
| | A kind reader has found hope that my development as a geezer might be arrested. |

Doc:
Modem numbers are managed in Network Prefs. If you go to the Location menu at the top of the pref panel and select "Edit Location..." you get a list of current locations with the option to duplicate (or rename, or delete) existing locations.
I too would have liked to be able to import the dialup numbers from Classic; maybe someone's written an AppleScript or something to support it.
And my battery life is closer to two or three hours per battery on my PowerBook G3, so I'm not sure what your short life means. Have you checked the Energy Saver prefs? You may also want to see if you have processes running that are chewing up a lot of CPU, which would shorten your battery life considerably.
