Spam slam
| | I get about 300 emails a day, about 1/4 of which are spam. The remainder get filtered to about a dozen mailboxes. So maybe 80 per day stay in the inbox. My current inbox goes back to January 1. It's not even 1.5 months old. Yet when Eudora rebuilt its table of contents, it was inflated to 29000 emails, about 95% of which were spam. My Cluetrain mailbox is now about 70% spam, where before there was none. All of it appears to be new, but with dates woven in among the legitimate mails. Where did they come from? I have no idea. It's not like I archive the things. |
| | Possibly related: OS X now hangs. The terminal often won't open, and then won't run certain commands, like top, which I use to monitor processes. (Though right now it's running, so go figure.) |
| | There are some heavy duty Apple weenies here at this conference OS X guys who work for the company and they're saying stuff like "I've never seen that before" and "Hmm. That's looking screwed." |
| | I spent some time with one guy looking at this: |
| | Processes: 36 total, 3 running, 1 stuck, 32 sleeping... 111 threads 23:36:06 Load Avg: 2.67, 2.63, 2.62 CPU usage: 28.1% user, 71.9% sys, 0.0% idle SharedLibs: num = 90, resident = 20.5M code, 1.48M data, 5.38M LinkEdit MemRegions: num = 2059, resident = 51.7M + 6.14M private, 44.3M shared PhysMem: 34.5M wired, 57.5M active, 279M inactive, 371M used, 13.3M free VM: 1.10G + 43.7M 3698(0) pageins, 21(0) pageouts |
| | Wondering what "1 stuck" means. |
| | Whatever, glad I'm going home tomorrow. I think I'll be spending some quality time on the phone Friday with tech support. |
Get your love on
