By the way, the deal with the equator has less to do with solar storms than with the directional proximity of geosynchronous satellites to the Sun itself at mid-day. El Sol is rather bright with RF noise as well as light. So, when your dish is pointed at a bird in space and the Sun slides across the same view, it kinda crashes the party. I imagine solar storms don't help, either. In any case, there was no unusual solar activity today. Or all week. See: <http://www.sec.noaa.gov/SWN/>.
