Re: Fulfilling the Promise
Doc,
you're being a bit harsh here. Personally I agree that she's worrying unnecessarily ... I have total faith that the
little voices on the web will eventually speak louder than and drive big media extinct. She doesn't get it.
But you don't have to berate her for worrying.
Also I'm surprised by your comment on the Bin Laden video, something (I believe) we in the UK could see on the BBC, and would have been fairly disturbed to have censored. The ban reminds me of when the UK government stopped the UK media from broadcasting the words of Sinn Fein politicians.
In a world where people, allegedly, judge politicians more on their body language than what they say, it is essential to democracy that people are allowed to see the body language and hear the words of their enemies.
Governments will obviously try to stop this, it helps paint those enemies as monsters. But suppose Bin Laden's video had shown him protesting his innocence. Would you still comment "what did we miss really?" The principle Balderma is defending strikes me as important, and one I'd have expected you to defend too.
Or were you just playing devil's advocate, and determined to negate every issue she raised?
