And I'm ugly too
| | Just came from the Y, which I joined so that maybe, eventually, I could get in something like "shape." |
| | "How long has it been since you worked out?" the girl behind the counter asked. |
| | "Actually, thirty-nine. I quit lifting weights when I was fifteen. Started when I was fourteen. Worked out until I could bench-press my own weight." |
| | "I'm about one-eighty now. And climbing. Actually, widening. That's why I'm here." |
| | "Have you used any of the Cybex machinery? Been to our weight room?" |
| | "Okay. So you're going to need a fitness evaluation." |
| | "I can give you one. I'm shot. I think I need to start by pumping cloth. Maybe I could pump iron after working my way through some of the lighter elements. Start with hydrogen. Then helium... " |
| | She finally laughed. That helped. |
| | Anyway, I start next week. Wish me sweat. |
Weblogs R Us
The Blog assimmilates Weinberger
| | At last David Weinberger has joined the Blogger Nation, so let's give him a hand. Or at least a link. |
| | JOHO the Blog is the name of the thing, and I think it's lookin' pretty good. |
| | I was gonna quote some of its really good stuff to whet ya'll's appetite, but I see RageBoy has already done that. So I'll roll two co-author's with one link by pointing up to the current top of RB's blog, where he posts the good news that his new book, Gonzo Marketing, got lumped in with three relatively standard business books in an Amazon Editor's Choice list. Salud! |
Borg of silence
| | We're sorry, but MSN Music currently requires a PC system running Internet Explorer 4.1 or higher installed if you want to browse the site or a PC system running Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher with Windows Media Player 7.0 or higher installed to listen to music. |
| | I'm sorry too, but that's not "Internet radio." It's a closed-circuit system that happens to use the Internet's pipes and specialized Microsoft clients. |
But let's not make a federalated case out of it
| | Don't know about you, but when I saw Presidents Bush and Putin talking to assembled (and no doubt highly screened) students in Texas yesterday, I had the cringing sensation that our prez would say something that either made no sense (e.g. "There aren't enough countries in Europe") or required what he once called an "apologism." I also thought the Russian translator tasked with interpreting President Bush might need to be equally fluent in the language this Salon piece calls Bushonics. Since there probably isn't an equivalent dialect in Russian, it's safe to assume that President Putin has no idea how decoherent President Bush's speech often is. Thanks to Paul for the link. |
Incoming!
| | I'm an astronomy freak, so I am going to be extremely bummed if it's overcast the next couple of nights. Because real astronomers are predicting a spectacular Leonid Meteor Shower. It probably won't equal the 100,000-meteor/hr. shower of 1966, or the legendary showers of 1833 and 1799, but it'll be big, and ya never know. |

Discuss? That's it? That's all she wrote? Personally, I've never been much of a fan of the discuss event, always having much preferred the shot put.

The Leonids were pretty cool last year, as I recall. Living within three miles of two horrendous sources of light pollution (an exit and a tollbooth on the Garden State Parkway), I still managed to see at least a dozen shooting stars. I can only imagine what people with decent viewing conditions saw that night.

Doc, I read your stuff every day and am a big fan of yours. We share many ideas, but you have the ability to communicate them better.
Any-who, I'm a member of the Y too; I go there almost every week day; it is the best feeling in the world... do not deprive yourself of it.
Start slow; drink lots of water every day; get some sleep when you need it; build a routine.
Try a SPIN class when you are up for it... my expressions after my first class... "better than sex," "I saw the face of God."
Hey, I'm an astronomy freak too... ground mirrors for my own 6-inch and 8-inch reflectors.
Yes! Get outside on saturday nite / sunday morning.
keep on keepin' on :-)

Ground your own mirrors, huh? That's hard core. Be interesting to hear how the Leonids went for you.
I also did the Y for the first time today (monday). Haven't signed up for any classes yet. It'll take a lot of time just to do the exercize stuff.
