Re: World World III
I don't disagree with a word of what you say.
And I don't think we're talking about a world war like the first and second, which were many against many. But we are talking about a war that involves the whole world. We may never know exactly why these fanatics attacked the World Trade Center, other than to succeed where they failed in the first place. Yet for whatever the reasons, they attacked a world symbol, and a world population -- not just a U.S. institution.
What George Gilder calls 'Bin Luddites' hate civilization. But as outsiders they know it, and us, better than we do. Which is why a bunch of normal-looking guys with box cutters were able to hijack 767s at approximately no cost and turn them into cruise missles more deadly, effrcient and unexpected than tactical nukes.
This world war is between the civilized and the fanatic, the broad and the narrow, the tolerant and the intolerant, the caring and the crazed.
What we have going for us now is the world's interest and sympathy -- including much of the Muslim world. I pray we don't waste it.
