Lines and sinkers
| | Suburbs, Locked Into a High-Tech Lure tells the story of what can happen when a community gets sucked into a long-term agreement with a monopoly Internet (plus TV) service provider. What's extra weird is that the service comes through fiber, which should be capable of high bandwidth and low problemwidth. |
| | Sounds to me like the problem isn't the connection, but the service provider. Since the homeowners are locked into a "contract that could run 75 years", there's not much chance the provider could lose their business to a competitor. |
Divided we stand. Sort of.
| | So this morning I went on the United Airlines website to confirm a complicated itinerary that starts next week, and found that nearly everything I selected seemed to result in the same weirdly promotional message you see above. Worse, when I went to check on my itineraries the one I wanted wasn't there. |
| | Assuming it was new-website jiggles, we waited until this afternoon, when a similar error showed up and our only choice was to call the airline. It was on the phone that we were told that the website is the work of "a subcontractor" and "we get this all the time". |
| | Hope they're doing better with their planes. |
