A head of its time
| | KFAT has been off the air for close to a quarter century, but its archives play on. I've been listening while working here at my office. What great radio. |
| | Too good to live, too great to die. |
| | If ya'll have any old KFAT tapes, send 'em in. |
Looks aren't everything, but they make everything better
| | Long before the term design was ever associated with newspapers, there was Ed Arnold. |
| | Long before there were Macs, or QuarkXPress, or SND, there was Ed Arnold. |
Write on
| | Lisa Gates calls me The incredible internet megalomaniac philosopher regular guy. Actually I didn't know it was Lisa who said that until I followed the lead from my (yes, of course) vanity feed to her new blog, which smelts great advice from the mines (pun not intended, but it works) of self-discovery. |
| | Lisa's an old friend and a writing coach. Good reading there, too. |
Next step: Barcodes for Babies!
| | New nannies, same as the old nannies. |
Taking "demonstration" to another level
| | Jennifer Earl in the Washington Post on Where all the protests have gone: ...the Internet hasn't become a venue just for facilitating the logistical details of old-fashioned protests, the place to find ride-sharing schedules and parking tips for the big day. Increasingly, the Internet has become the venue for protest -- the new Mall, so to speak -- where online-only activists deploy new technologies to challenge governments and corporations and promote causes mundane and sublime. I've done research, funded by the National Science Foundation, about the Internet and protests, and I've found that these efforts are transforming the way everyday citizens connect with and participate in activism and social movements. |
The new bossterity
| | In response to continuing financial strains, U.S. Army Europe has canceled all welcome home celebrations for units returning from deployment through this fiscal year, halting the tradition of free food, rides and other community festivities for returning soldiers and their families. |
| | In a memo dated Dec. 19, Installation Management Command-Europe director Russell Hall said that USAREUR leadership had discontinued the events until the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30. |
| | The action was deemed necessary as a result of challenges posed by ³minimal funding to support core program operations² within IMCOM-Europe¹s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Single Fund, Hall states in the memo. |
