Watch out above
| | A satellite crashing into the crater-pocked surface of the moon tomorrow night might not be the most visible event of the year. Not only will it be happening at more than a quarter million miles away; but the moon has no atmosphere. So the most you'll see are sparks from colliding metal and rocks. Still, that's enough for backyard telescopes, they think. |
| | Unless, of course, somebody stands in the way. |
There vs. Everywhere
Taking side
| | If this new movement in the marketplace is not top-down or bottom-up, which way is it going? |
| | The answer is inside-out. It's going from the individual out to the marketplace. Individuals needs to be in charge of their independence, their freedom, their liberty, their assets, their choices, their relationships. They will drive market growth in businesses that appreciate how much more can come from independent customers than from dependent ones. |
And the livin' is easy
| | It's September 1st, and the tune running through my mind is the Door's "Summer's Almost Gone", from their Waiting for the Sun album. Also the song that follows, the marvelous waltz "Wintertime Love". On Doors CDs, the latter differs from the vinyl original. I'm told that's because the studio tape pressed into vinyl was damaged, so another was used. |
| | Seems like a metaphor for something. |
| | Anyway, as a kid I was always bummed by the end of summer, which was about freedom and fun and play and friends and family outings to beaches and rivers. School could never compete with that, even as a place for learning stuff. |
| | I was always a little optimistic, heading off to the first day of school, my book bag with a fresh looseleaf notebook, colored tabs ready to be labeled with each new subject. But mostly I dreaded what I knew would follow, which was hating almost every minute of being there. |
| | It's different now. Quite the opposite, in respect to school. (Though I still love summers.) Looking forward to lots of good things happening this next school year. I'll talk more about that sometime later. Meanwhile, a toast to the school we're running right here. Best new student/teacher: J.P.Rangaswami. Dig Things I've been able to do Because Of my blog. Best mentor: Dave Winer. I dig how he's still getting lessons, too. |
