Cheer the Turtle
| | So I'm in Maryland, where I just watched Maryland win the Women's NCAA final, against Duke, which was favored (including by me... I'm a fan). As with the Florida win in the men's final yesterday, you had to like the winning team. And the winning teamwork. The Terps trailed most of the game, caught up, and never lost their energy or focus when the pressure coudn't be higher. Kristi Tolliver hit an NBA-range 3-pointer over the outstretched hand of Duke's 6'7" center, Allison Bales, the best shot-blocker in the history of the tournament, to tie the game and send the game into overtime. Went down to the wire in OT too, even with a 1-point Duke lead; but the outcome wasn't in doubt: Maryland was more determined. They showed why they've won all six overtime games this season. |
| | Really felt bad for Duke. Coach Gail Goestenkors must own the record for finals futility. Fifth-year senior Monique Curry put off starting a WNBA career to lead Duke to the championship game... but not the championship. No telling how much that one hurt. |
| | Anyway, back to packing for the next trip... See ya in San Antonio. Or along the way. |
Silver weather
| | Yesterday evening, right after F2C, we walked out on the balcony of City Place in downtown Silver Spring (map here) and were treated to some of the most spectacular cloud theater any of us have ever seen. So, of course, I shot it. |
| | I didn't catch any of the lightning, but the clouds were dramatic enough. Soon as it started to rain, Dean Landsman and I sat down at a restaurant, which turned out to have free wi-fi (lots of places here do). So I uploaded the pix within five minutes after they were shot, promoting the first comment at this shot here. |
Sounds amazing
| | Joe Craven has been accompanying F2C. The dude is amazing. |
More better talk
Morality matters
| | What I said here about business and morality has attracted a growing variety of comments, under that post and from Chris Heuer, Jeremy Ballenger, Kate, Scott Karp, Kami Huyse, Randy Holloway, Daniel Berlinger, DParmet, Hugh MacLeod, Mike Abundo and others, including Kevin Marks, who totally runs with it. Outstanding post. Same with Tara Hunt's, which I just read. |
| | I agree that there appears to be some kind of basic economic shift going on. It certainly seems to have something to do with "scalable platforms," and it may well have something to do with generosity... |
| | Nick's right that what I wrote was "cavalier", at least from his angle of regard. Mostly it was something I need to think about a lot more before I post on it, which may not be for awhile. (Got work to finish and travelling to do.) |
Considering the source
| | Rep. Rich Boucher just told the story, here at F2C, about how a post by Brian Patton was the source of news, and a grainy photograph taken with Brian's cell phone, that Boucher was engaged to be married. Story and photo ran in papers all over Virginia. |
Gotta like the Gators
| | Florida 73, UCLA 57. The score wasn't that close. The Gators chewed up and spit out the best defensive team in the country. It was a fun game to watch, if you weren't a UCLA fan. |
