Listing sideways
| | I agree with Elisa about lists. Basically, all Top-(whatever) lists suck. But then, it seems to be human nature to rank the crap out of everything. |
| | Still, it's flattering to find this blog included in the CNET 100, but strange to see it listed in the "Open Source" category. Cuz' if there's anything I avoid writing about here, it's work. Linux Journal pays me to write for its magazine and website, plus IT Garage and Suitwatch. This blog is where I write about everything but Linux and open source. Well, once in awhile something might spill into here; but generally I avoid it. |
| | Frankly, I don't think the blog is categorizable except roughly as a "techblog", a term left over from the days when the two main clusters were politics and tech. If I had to put it in one of CNETs' other baskets, I guess I'd go for Web culture, Tech business or Search, Media. |
| | And why isn't Denise Howell, the Mother of all blawgs, in the law basket? |
| | One thing these are good for is finding new stuff. Like, I didn't know there was a GPS review. I took a lot of interest in GPS during the cruise that just ended, so that one looks pretty cool. |
| | But there are already so many ways to find new and interesting blogs. And an infinite number of ways to find new and interesting information. (My fave is keyword searches and subscriptions on the Live Web engines that offer it.) Why more guides for the self-guiding? |
