Why Kerry lost
Invasion of the blog snatchers
| | Sean Bonner: Anatomy of a rip-off. This is required reading for anybody who cares about fraudulent blogs, or splogs, or blog spam, or whatever you want to call it. The issue is serious. |
| | Sean and his people put a huge effort into creating a Good Thing with Metblogs. They have lots of real people doing real writing in real cities they care about. Now along comes a knock-off that scrapes real blogs for "content" to run in fake "CityScene" blogs, almost certainly to game PageRank and Adsense. |
| | Sean has been doing a lot of research to expose the pricks behind this particular scam. He has names and addresses, and is running them on his blog. No idea yet if they're as phony as the dead ends at the ends of his other leads. So any help you can give him would be welcome. |
Just a sort-of interesting thing
| | I flew foodless United flights from Santa Barbara to Denver, then Denver to Tampa, starting at 6am. (Well, they had a cookie on the first flight and boxes of snack samplers for $5 each on the second, but I'm back on the low-carb diet, so I avoided both.) |
| | So when I got here I was pretty damn hungry. After dumping our stuff in the hotel, we headed out to a local Tex-Mex place for some fajitas. |
| | On the way, I found myself wondering what it was that made me feel strangely disoriented. Then I realized: no mountains. I've been a West Coaster for so long (20 years, last month) that I've come to rely on elevated landforms to orient myself. Being unfamiliar with Tampa, I had nothing equivalent. |
On the sky again
| | Heading out to the Linux Lunacy Geek Cruise, which commences tomorrow out of Tampa. Up early, packing and wondering what I'll forget. |
| | See ya on the other coast(s). |
