Rise and shine 
| | I don't usually turn on TV in the morning, but today I did — at about 6:20, just in time for news helicopters from all the major TV stations to converge on the scene of a train wreck in Glendale, several miles up the tracks from downtown Los Angeles. |
| | For the next 45 minutes, while I made breakfast for the family, I flipped back and forth between KCBS/2, KNBC/4, KABC/7 and KTTV/11 — all of which had helicopters hovering over the scene and professionals on the ground and back at the studio, doing their best to make sense of it all while passing along useful information to viewers. All of them suspended normal programming and carried no advertising. |
| | I'm an inveterate scourge of commercial television; but today I'm interrupting my customary brickbats to deliver some well-deserved kudos. I thought all four stations did an outstanding job. My only quibble was with the huge amount of space Channel 2 devoted to its superimposed station-ID banner (or whatever you call that... I used to know, but it's been so long I forget). |
| | I assume the other L.A. stations did an equally good job, but those four are the only ones carried by DishTV. |
