Say it ain't Scottso
| | I just learned that Scott Muni died. He was 74. The one and only time I met him was at a radio conference in New Orleans, thirty years ago this month. He told me his starting salary at WNEW-FM had been "just $175 a week." I didn't have much sympathy with that, since at the time we were living on food stamps. My own radio salary was that low. |
| | I also knew that Scott made a pile as a voice-over guy. He was, for example, the voice of Rollaids' "How do you spell relief?" |
| | But I was impressed that he'd bother to talk to me at all, since I was a big fan, going back to Scott's days as a WMCA Good Guy in the late 50's. The guy knew everybody and everything about rock & roll and in the radio business. |
| | He was one of the great ones, in a business whose golden age is as gone as Tutanhamen's. Strangely coincidental that he'd die right as podcasting is being born. |
