Flare out
| | Tonight's the night when the lastest sunstorm is expected to hit the magnetosphere and produce auroras. |
| | It's overcast here, and expected to get worse. |
| | Meanwhile, here's SpaceWeather.com on the event producing tonight's light show: |
| | SUPERFLARE: Astronomers won't soon forget Nov. 4th, 2003--the day of the biggest explosion ever recorded in our solar system. The blast originated from giant sunspot 486, and on the Richter scale of solar flares, it measured X28. Smaller flares in the past have caused power outages and widespread auroras. The Nov. 4th explosion was not directed squarely toward Earth, and its effects so far have been relatively minimal. Even so, it was a flare to remember. |
Ant Season's Greetings
| | After the first rain in California, ants start looking for indoor accomodations. I've staved them off, so far. In case you're among the invaded, here's my well-tested advice for dealing with them. |
Makes me glad I work in a detached building
| | The Sewage Saga continues. The question at hand: Do we remove and replace the shit-soaked rugs, or do we just steam-clean them thoroughly? I'm not using Lysol because I used to work in a cheap motel, and Lysol reminds me of it. |
| | Context #1: we rent. Context #2: We're talking about thin industrial carpeting on a concrete floor here. Not a prime living area. Most of what got soaked is our storage/workroom. Also our data center, but all of that stuff was thankfully up on shelves. |
| | Oh, the sewage (liquids, no solids) also poured into several container boxes of books. I have no idea if these are worth keeping at all, much less cleaning. If I do decide to clean a couple, any ideas about how to do that? |
