Screaming of government...
| | I missed pointing to this piece by Paul about how the feds (or at least those corners of it that are hellbent on turning the U.S. from free socieity to a national security state) want everybody to close down their open wi-fi access points (such as the one I'm using now) or face regulation forcing them to do that. |
| | The feds don't get that this is a new world here -- one that nobody owns, everybody can use and anyboy can improve. It's not for control. |
| | They may succeed in the short run, and in limited ways, as China is doing with its ISPs, and the U.S. is doing with the DMCA. But in the long run, they'll fail. |
Too good for government work
| | Phil Windley, whose blog's slogan is Oganizations usually get the IT they deserve, is proving the State of Utah undeserving of his exceptional service. As for the state: whatever. It'll be fine. As for Phil, I'm really looking forward to seeing what he's up to next. |
I'm dreaming of an ice Christmas...
| | Don McArthur has some (n)ice pix of the freak storm in Raleigh. Another report from a blogless correspondent in another North Carolina town: |
| | No trees hit the house... neighbor's pines are toothpicks and smashed his garage and my plants. House on the other side lost garage and wall. Town is a mess. No phone, estimated repair 17th of Dec. Finally have cable and email. Also have enough food , thankfully. |
Wars and rumors of wars
| | Alfredo is a blogger from Venezuela, which is in a handbasket right now. He reports in Tyromania: |
| | The information I have right now is that General Garcia Montoya is under custody for refusing to obey a presidential order to militarized the city. Garcia Montoya was a prominent Chávez supporter... The situation is uncertain. |
Just in time for Christmas
