| | Looks like we lack a critical mess of bloggers for today's MeetUp in the Santa Barbara - Santa Maria area (which are not exactly next doorto each other, but never mind). We needed at least four RSVPs to make it happen. Hey, I know we had one. |
| | I think I'll confirm next time for the LA-Beverly Hills-Hollywood one. And I'll be looking for reports on today's MeetUp there (or anywhere). |

Still in Classic hell
| | Okay, I've reset the permissions in /System/Library/CoreServices/ClassicStartup. I now get (as I did at an earlier point) "You do not have sufficient permissions to Run Classic from /privateBê." I have no idea what to do next. |
| | [Later...] Okay, it's fixed. What I finally did was call AppleCare, which recommended doing another clean install of the Classic system (9.2). And that worked. Life may now safely go on. |

Making some points
| | I was told recently that I had "some strong Google juice." Turns out this isn't something that stains your clothes. It's the generative power, like electricity (another form of juice), that derives from links, which Google values highly. |
| | Yesterday Tony Pierce said he was loving the link love from Bill Quick and me. I like that he saw it as love, which it is in his case, but in many other cases its more akin to respect, or the urge to serve humanity's heuristic passions. We link to release the profoundly (or profanely) social juice that serves as the blood of the species. |

| | And while we're on the subjects of Love and Tony, I can't resist pointing to the work of genius the old man put up yesterday. don't be fooled by guys who can write well. it just means that when they're mad at you you'll get the most hateful terrible emails. you deserve better.
don't be fooled by guys who are terribly handsome, or charming, or cool as a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce. those guys, especially in LA are a dime a dozen.
what you need is a nerdy guy who'd do anything for you. who would leave you presents at your door and make web sites for you in your image: beautiful and grand, lyrical and edgy. you need a geek who would wait years for you, secretly, despite his own welfare. you need someone who wont make fun of the bad music kids these days love.
instead of trolling the skate parks and beaches, you should sit outside a cyber cafe or an engineering department, browse through the aisles of fry's electronics, become a member of the battery club at radio shack.
go geek, not greek. |

'Tis a gift to be simple...
| | I haven't fixed the Classic problem yet, but I am taking the time, while I don't have it, to burn duplicates of the source disks that came with the G4/800, before I return them today with the machine. (The source disks for the G4/500 are for versions of system software more than a year old and many generations back; and therefore pretty useless to me.) But for some reason the CD burner won't let me give the duplicate CDs the same names as the source CDs. Pain in the ass. |
| | And, at the end of a lengthy burning session, the burner (a Que something-or-other) says "Sorry, he operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error code 3)." |
