Bad nPR
| | See what happens when you run shit through Legal? |
Quotage:
| | Among the take-aways from Garlic & Shots on Monday night: |
| | A consumer is a slug with retail at one end and landfill at the other. Matt Jones |
| | The latter was from Matt's notebook, which featured a cartoon of a cute little slug. [Later...] Matt credits the line to Brenda Laurel, author of Utopian Entrepreneur. |
| | Also, a plug for Matt Webb's various blogs and sites. He was there too. We talked about the BeOS file system and other things. He knows lotsa shit. |
New blog alert
| | Yoz Grahame's new blog is up, and he launches with a domestic view on my visit to London, among other things. Dig it. |
Rewatch what you're doing
| | And as if that weren't enuf, there's this and this and this. |
Exceeding the graspers
| | Kevin Marks: ... grasping the truth about digital media that DRM destroys value, but copying doesn't. |
Cast freely
| | The "final determination" on CARP is due late tomorrow. Thanks to Mary Wehmeier for the reminder. |
Manifest breakage
| | Favorite Blogger's Manifesto line: "Every 5.8 seconds, someone posts a quote from Douglas Adams, Star Wars or Monty Python. Currently, 34.2% of the internet is made up of the word 'Ni'. My website will break the chain." |
| | Ben Hammersley, my unwired host on Kynance Place in London, is one of the BM's authors. |

There are no First, Second or Third Worlds. There is only Football.
| | On the plane yesterday, somewhere over Labrador, I was listening to Channel 9 audio. As with most United Airlines flights, that's the channel that carries cockpit conversation with other planes and air traffic control. The chatter is mostly arcane: "American 415, climb and maintain three five zero... contact Montreal Center at one thirty two two..." But at one point a pilot came on and said "For everybody interested, here are the football scores. South Korea, two, Italy, one... Turkey, one, Japan, zero..." Headphones on, I repeated the scores to my seatmate, a British executive with Aston-Martin. Astonishment spread. |
Quote of the day
| | Rob Flickenger: I have stared at the sun, and for the sake of my sanity, will never again look directly at the consciousness of the online ueber-geek collective. |
On the continuing end of government as usual
| | Matt Jones: Score one for the SmartMob. Terrific news, and an equally terrific working model for what we need more of on the other side of the pond. By the way, Matt was one of the blokes with whom I had a great time Monday night at Garlic & Shots in Soho. (If I have time later today I'll provide photographic evidence. Start cringing.) |

Yawn! Ahhh.
| | Got a good night's sleep for the first time in a week. Almost forgot what that was like. |
