Prest-o, same-o 
I got the replacement loaner G4/800 TiBook, plugged it into the dented (but working) one, started it up holding down the T key, and it came up as a firewire drive. Then I ran Dantz' Retrospect on the dented one, and duplicated the entire contentss of the dented one into the new one. Now I'm on the new one, and it's like I'm on the same box. Amazing.

Listening right now to Taco Wagon, specifically to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Star of the County down, Flight of the ... something. Very atmostpheric, beautiful country/jazz number. Now it's They Might Be Giants. Good stuff.

Eric Raymond just set a new high-thought mark on the subject of porn. A sample:

In his brilliant book Accidental Empires: How the boys of Silicon Valley made their millions, battled foreign competition and couldn't get a date, Robert X. Cringeley said, only a bit facetiously, that there are basically two kinds of programmers: nerds and hippies. Nerds can tell you a hundred ways to make love to a woman, but they don't know any women. Hippies know women.
I don't think Eric would call himself a hippie, but by Cringeley's taxonomy, I think he qualifies.
On the occasion of having eaten half a steer for dinner
Steve Yost is rowing again, and it depresses me. I don't work out; I eat out. And it shows. I don't even want to know what I weigh. I brought a tux along on the cruise, for the two formal dinners. The pants were useless and I couldn't button the collar around my neck. I just hid the open button behind the bowtie.
Exercize bores my ass off. The only sport that ever turned me on was basketball. My older son and I used to play a lot, and that helped keep me in shape, but that was fifteen years ago. My younger son is just five. He's into t-ball (baseball, where the pitcher is a plastic post), and we play catch, but it's not enough.
Going to the Y seems to take up half the morning or afternoon. Still, I've got to get back into it.
