Edgestream journalism
| | Isn't it interesting that when the mainstream press makes bad news about Google, the company gets in touch with bloggers to set The Record straight? |
| | I've got more to say about this in a story that should be coming up soon over at the Linux Journal site. |
Ack.
Skating on hot ice
| | Watched a bit more of the Olympics last night. Hated to see the guy whose parents encouraged him to jump off the roof (as we were told in countless ads for...Allstate? not sure) lose terribly on the last jump of the day. But the women's skating was pretty, as usual. |
| | Much more interesting, however, is following Mary Wehmeier's Radio Blog. I've known Mary for years through the Broadcast Professional's Forum on Compuserve, where I was a sysop. She ran the place. The BPF was easily the best professional online community of which I've ever been a member. Sadly, Compuserve neglected itself nearly to death, and AOL pretty much finished the job after acquiring Compuserve. (Try to find or join a forum at tht last link, and bear in mind that there were once over a thousand of them, most of which were extremely active.) |
| | What rarely came up during all those years on the BPF was Mary's involvement in figure skating. She not only really knows her shit, she's involved with the shit-covered official bodies who stand downwind of the fan. |
If blogs worked the same way, a lot of us wouldn't be here
| | Halley's Comment points to a Boston Globe piece on Atlantic Monthly's alleged rejection of two over-40 applicants for internship positions because the magazine was "unable to accept people who are older because our interns work very closely together and it won't work if they are of very different ages or stages in their lives." The magazine appears regretful about the matter. |
Coblogging in real time
| | Brent Ashley has added a chat feature Blahg" to his blog. Works real well, too. If it says "Brent is online," just click on it and you're there. Very cool. |
