There is no Dave conspiracy
| | I was once in a car with Dave Sifry, Dave LaDuke (then also of Linuxcare) and another Dave (I forget who) when another guy called me on my cell phone and joked that I was the only one present not named Dave. |
| | So I told him my real name: the one my family and oldest friends still call me. |
Head trips
| | Interesting item on the AOL/Red Hat non-deal from The Head Lemur in his new Radio blog. Which came across my radar about the same time as an email from a wise friend who said, An application's "target platform" does not have to be an OS, and Forget about operating systems. Designing a program for an OS is like designing a web site for "800x600". |
| | This reminds me of Dave's "market share is a head trip" line from several years back. Makes ya stop and think. |
| | [Later...] I see the AOL + Red Hat meme is spreading via Bloomberg from that one original unsubstantiated source. This story goes on to speculate a bit more about AOL's intentions in the non-existent consumer Web appliance market. Still, it's meaningless. |
| | I'm planning to write something about this tomorrow for the Linux Journal site, by the way. Stay tuned. |
Speaking of Jouralism
| | This is a huge deadline day. I usually expect this means less blogging, but I have no idea, since this is something of a steam valve on my day (and often night) job. Still, I need to float my all-purpose excuse for not doing whatever it is I probably won't do today. |
Independent media edge
| | Very interesting piece by Theta Pavis in OJR about Independent Media Centers. I have to confess the subject is new to me. But not any more, I guess. |
| | Also in OJR: Let Slip the Blogs of War, by Tim Cavanaugh. This one gives a name to a community I barely knew was a community: the War Bloggers. This apparently defines a loop that connects Andrew Sullivan, Glenn Reynolds, Virginia Postrel, Little Green Footballs, Blowback, Damian Penny and Christopher Johnson, among others. Here I had some idea, mostly by reading down Glenn Reynolds' blogrolling list. But I just thought it was a buncha guys on The Right including, on a few occasions, me. |
| | Tim's piece has the satirical edge you'd expect from a guy who edited Suck. Sez he: |
| | Shine on, you crazy bloggers! Someday the rest of us will hold our manhoods cheap that we did not blog with you this day. But as long as courage lives and liberty endures, every American will be proud to have you out there, blogging for an audience of none. |
| | Which I suppose includes all the nobodies reading this right now. |
