Power corrupts, and Powerpoint corrupts absolutely
I got that line a couple hours ago from Charles Roth, who has been helping me set up my sister's laptop here in the hotel where I'm going to give a keynote first thing tomorrow morning.
Not long after I got settled in my room around 3pm, my laptop began to crap out. I'll spare you the details, but the upshot of it and it's a remarkable one is that the Apple tech support guy, who came on the phone instantly and didn't charge me anything even though my box had a warranty that expired early in the Millenium, told me I should take the unit in to see one of the geniuses (yes, they suffer that very job title) at the Apple Store I visited yesterday in Tyson's Corner. "That's what they're there for," he said. I almost couldn't believe it: Apple wants to be in a conversational market.
I'll let you know how that one goes. Meanwhile, it's back to pounding away in Powerpoint on my sister's Dell.
Meanwhile, I restarting from scratch.
