Glug
So I'm sitting here next to Dan in the "Terminal Room" at the P2P conference, missing something, no doubt, while I do this. Almost simultaneously, Dan pointed me to this bad news about the Google takeover of Deja, which I had treated positively earlier, and an email came in from a "Deja Refugee" that I'll publish in its entirety, I hope, after I get permission. It's not pretty.
I caught most of a panel this morning with Dan, Dave, Rob and Jeff (cmdr taco & hemos of Slashdot). Interesting to hear conflict of some sort where I thought there was none. I've got to think more about it. Meanwhile, I'm sad to discover (again thanks to Dan) that Jim Allchin is taking the low road in Microsoft's now overt campaign against Linux and open source. It's fighting the Net. Also users. Bad move. For some perspective, here's a little of that "innovation" at rest.
Awesome dinner
So I missed the first day of the P2P thing, but I did get to The City for a fun dinner Kevin Werbach pulled together. Among those I could I dentify around the large table were Johnny Deep, Rohit Khare (about whom Dan wrote this yesterday), Cory Doctorow, Clay Shirky, Keith Dawson (who wrote this about Rohit who clearly has a hit pun intended with KnowNow) and several others I'll insult by failing to mention, but their cards are in the bedroom closet and I don't want to wake the rest of the family going in there at 5:52AM to root around in the dark. I'll fill in the blanks later. Right now I have to get a big hunk of Linux Journal's May issue off to Richard (our managing editor) and get ready to go to Day Two of this conference.
Come see us
A sort-of bulletin: we're moving. Maybe. Or temporarily. Anyway, we just rented a place two blocks from the beach in Santa Barbara to see if we like it enough to move there for the duration.
