Friendly pod alert: Just got this from Charles Grantham, author of The Future of Work:"The Internet will have a far greater impact on society, our economy and political structures than the advent of the printing press. It has already begun to create a new social psychology on the planet that will forever alter status and power relationships between individual citizens and larger societal organizations. the pod is here and sleeping under your bed--better look!"
Ads R'nt Us: This piece from The Washington Post gives some detail to the sudden rise in the oldest form of modern graffiti: advertising "messages" sprayed on every surface and inserted in every conceivable "medium," from laundry bags to gas pumps. Ironically, the best quotes come from Diane Cimine of the Outdoor Advertising Association: "Ultimately consumers are not stupid... If they realize that every two minutes there will be an interruption for some ad, it will be detrimental. They will be annoyed, not at the medium but at the company pitching the ad." Brace yourself for the cluelash, pitch boys.
More conversations: We've added a new page to the Cluetrain site: Cluetrain Rap. It's a set of links to online discussions of Cluetrain and the issues it raises. Check 'em out.
A WAP upside the head: Clay Shirky has written an outstanding piece on WAP (Wireless Access Protocol), the phone industry's idea of a wireless Web. He says WAP "offers a chance to rebuild the Web, without all that annoying freedom, and without all that annoying competition."
